A reception for President Bob Frank and his wife Janet will immediately follow the installation at Hodgin Hall, the Alumni Center, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. We invite everyone to join us in congratulating the Franks and welcoming them to the University. At 4:30 p.m. there will be a special unveiling of the bronze U sculpture on the east patio of Hodgin Hall. Be part of a new campus tradition as we illuminate the U for the first time.

Hodgin Hall

Hodgin Hall

Hodgin Hall opened its doors in 1892, three years after the university was founded on February 28, 1889 with the passage of House Bill No. 186 by the Legislative Assembly of the Territory of New Mexico. Hodgin Hall was originally built in Richardson Romanesque style with red brick, arched doors and windows, and a steep roof. After a year-long renovation, the building reopened in September 2011. Today, Hodgin Hall serves as the official Alumni Center, welcoming its alumni, students and the community to the heart and soul of the University.

The U

The new U

In the 1920s a large U was placed atop Hodgin Hall and lit when the Lobos were victorious. To honor that great tradition, the Alumni Association has gifted a bronze U sculpture to UNM. On November 18th at 4:30 we will unveil the U and light it for the first time with the belief that a strong sense of spirit, community, and engagement will continue to grow on the UNM campus as we preserve established traditions and create new ones for future generations.
